Tail Walker Commercial Aquaculture Facility

SOLD!

Located on Pumpkin Creek in the beautiful Redington Valley of Western Nebraska lies the “State of the Art” Tail Walker Trout Farm.  Encompassing 12 runs, enough for 2,000,000 plus pounds of fish, and a brand-new processing facility still under construction.  Tail Walker Trout Company began building the fully insulated processing facility in a B&C Steel Building. Plans to process and smoke Nebraska-raised fish were in the making.
The processing facility has a complete concrete floor with stained and finished concrete. Touchless lights come on as you progress through the facility. Two large walk-in coolers total over 600 sq. ft of cooler space with large US Cooler doors. As with any live animal processing facility, electricity is a necessity, no worries with the brand-new Cummins-powered diesel generator for backup power. The fish are raised and fed on the South end of the campus then transferred by truck to the receiving runs plumbed into the building for easy processing.
There are 13 wells on the Tail Walker Trout property with no pumping restrictions. Some wells are used for the processing facility, some used for domestic water wells and the balance used for the trout farm. Four wells are capable of pumping approximately 3000 gpm continuous, enough fresh water for the 1-million-plus pounds of live fish.

Nebraska State Aquaculture Regulations

The Game and Parks Commission regulates the aquaculture industry.  If you are raising fish for personal consumption and not for re-sale then you will not need an aquacultures license, if you are going to sell them commercially, a $76 license will be necessary.  They also regulate the importation of aquatic species so if the fish source is from outside the state, then an import permit will be necessary.  This is a free permit.  Both forms and more information can be found on the Game and Parks website, either search “aquaculture” or follow this link: Fisheries Special Applications and Forms

Depending on the size of your operation you may need to contact the Department of Environmental Quality.  They regulate based on the clean water act so if you are discharging any wastes into waters of the state they may require a permit (this is usually size dependent)

Depending on your project, if you must drill a well, you may need to contact the Natural Resource District (NRD) for your area, http://www.nrdnet.org/ They oversee water usage, again this is usually a size/quantity issue, small wells are usually not an issue compared to large scale irrigation wells.
